Redeemed Way Christian Counseling

Patti McCarthy Broderick, PhD, LPC.

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

(2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NIV)

No one likes the humbling experience of disclosing to a stranger our struggles with fears, with painful relationships, with on-going stressors, with past hurts, with mistakes, with our own thought lives, with looming doubts about God or really, with anything. But we often instinctively know that continuing to “circle the same drain” can steal our joy for life. If you have reached that point and are ready to bring these struggles out into the light, that is the first step toward freedom, movement and healing.

“Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken” (Ecc 4:12). As we come together and open things up before God, we believe He can “lead us beside still waters and restore our souls.” (Psalm 23:2).

Dr. Patti Broderick’s Approach

Patti views the study of psychology as another venue for the general revelation of God. However, she considers His special revelation, the Word of God written in the Bible, to be divinely inspired truth through which all general revelation must be filtered. Therefore, in her approach to counseling, she attempts to use Scripture as the primary lens and psychology as a secondary lens for her theoretical formulation.  Since man does not address his trials in isolation, she tends to be holistic in her approach to counseling by integrating all factors, which impact functioning: affective, behavioral, cognitive, spiritual, contextual, physical, and volitional as well as one’s unique, God-given personality. Ultimately, however, her theoretical leanings are cognitive, existential, and dynamic.
